Crypto Round-Trip Cost Calculator: Fees and Break-Even

Estimate the entry and exit costs of a spot crypto purchase, its net cash profit or loss, and the exit price needed to break even. Enter your own fee rates and execution assumptions. This is a buy-then-sell scenario for the same coin quantity, not a live exchange quote.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter the quantity you buy and later sell. Fees are modeled as cash charges, so that quantity stays constant.
  2. Enter entry and exit reference prices. If you use actual executed prices, set both execution allowances to zero to avoid counting costs twice.
  3. Enter the applicable fee for each leg: type 0.10 for 0.10%, not 10. An immediately matched limit order may incur a taker fee; use your venue's fill record.
  4. For a hypothetical pre-trade estimate, enter one combined spread-and-slippage allowance per leg. Entry execution is increased by that rate and exit execution reduced by it. Do not add the full quoted bid–ask spread automatically to both legs.

Worked example: $600 entry notional

All numbers are hypothetical. Buy 0.01 coin at $60,000 and sell at $60,600. With a 0.10% fee on each leg and zero execution allowances, entry fee is $0.60 and exit fee is $0.606. Entry cash paid is $600.60; net exit cash received is $605.394. Net profit is $4.794, not the $6 reference-price gain.

The break-even exit price is approximately $60,120.120120, or a 0.2002% move from $60,000. It is slightly more than simply adding two 0.10% fees because the exit fee is charged on the exit notional.

Keep the prices above but set the exit fee to 0.20%: net profit falls to $4.188 and the break-even price rises to approximately $60,180.360721. This illustrates why entry and exit fee rates should be separate inputs.

Formulas and assumptions

Let Q be coin quantity; B and S the entry and exit reference prices; fᵢ and fₒ the fee rates as decimals; aᵢ and aₒ the combined execution-cost allowances.

Total costs shown equal both fees plus Q × (E − B) + Q × (S − X). Subtracting them from the reference-price gain Q × (S − B) gives net profit. The break-even calculation holds your entered fee rates and exit allowance constant; it cannot predict the actual order book.

Limits

Spot buy-then-sell only. No shorts, leverage, funding, borrowing, transfers, taxes, liquidation, negative maker rebates or fees deducted in coin. Actual venue rules and rounding can differ. This tool does not fetch fee tiers or live prices, rank exchanges, or recommend a trade. For coin-denominated fees, adjust the model outside this calculator or use the exchange's records.
